Systems pharmacology has attracted a lot of attention in the field of drug discovery. In the systems pharmacology approach, zebrafish have many advantages. The development and function of zebrafish organs are very similar to those of humans. Zebrafish possess orthologs for more than 80% of human drug targets. Zebrafish are prolific and small, making the species suitable for high throughput screening application with relatively small quantities of compounds. These compounds can be easily administered to zebrafish by introducing them into their swim water. Quantitative imaging of various tissues using fluorescent proteins/dyes and quantitative analysis of various neurobehavior can be performed in a relatively high throughput manner, which can be used for phenotypic drug discovery. In this presentation, we would like to introduce our strategy using zebrafish-based systems pharmacology focusing on various retinal diseases.
